Chad Stoddard saw the 1979 house listed, and after growing up his entire life in Kirkwood, PA just down the street from the house, he knew he had to see the inside. Chad and his wife, Theresa, instantly fell in love with the very quirky property which was built on one acre of land.
“In 1983, the second owners purchased the property. They’d lived here all these years until we bought it from them,” Theresa explains during a house tour with Valley Home. Needless to say, they fell head over heels with all of the little surprises around each corner.
The Stoddards have kept a lot of the original characteristics of the home, including the bright red carpet and mushroom board walls in the basement, and the dry stack stone wall in the upstairs living room. One incredible feature is the peculiar wallpaper choices. The era from which the wallpaper comes is very evident. It screams 1970s, featuring gorgeous animal prints and geometric patterns laced with shining metallics. Even the front door greets new guests with a little quirk and style, and was hand carved by a talented artist in Arizona. “His name is carved into the door,” Theresa tells us excitedly. So, instead of out with the old, for this family it’s in with the old and the new.
