I listened to 16-year-old Eloise Sharkey’s album on her website and was taken aback by her voice. There is a fullness to her sound, and almost an element of experience and grit that usually comes with many more years of adulthood. She truly surpasses the ideology of a typical “youngster.”
When Eloise was very little, she was always singing and creating her own songs in her head which lead her to studying musical theater. While she lived in New York, she had a manager for most of her childhood who scheduled auditioning gigs for television, movies, commercials, and plays. “I realized after a while that posing with mayonnaise bottles just wasn’t what I wanted to do,” Eloise says.
At just twelve years old, Eloise experimented with playing guitar and immediately began writing her own music. It is the creative process of making music that continually compels her. She now works with Jeff Thomas, her music producer, and performs live at various locations.
Here are some fun interview questions we asked Eloise.
- Musical influences: My musical influences range from The Beatles, Edie Brickell, and John Mayer to Taylor Swift. Any artist that puts out an original sound with an original voice influences me because that’s really what I’m trying to do.
- Theme song: It would probably be “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman. I love the idea of just taking chances and going on spontaneous adventures without any reassurance that everything’s going to go perfectly.
- Hobbies: I run track and play tennis, but not very well (haha). I also like photography.
- What does 2016 look like for you? In 2016 I hope to play a lot of cool venues and meet lots of new people. I’m hoping to get in contact with more people in the music industry and basically get my music to as many people as possible.
