It just so happened that the day of my rappelling adventure photo shoot, photographer Bianca Cordova‘s vehicle was in need of repair. Luckily (for me, anyway) her alternate ride came from friends Adriana and Chris Atencio. Even luckier, Chris owns a drone and asked if he could videotape our descent from the rock face. With subtle hesitation from the tour guides of Valley to Summit, they agreed, as long as the drone did not disturb the climbing and rappelling.
Up, up, and away we went. As we reached the top of the rock, Chris’s drone went whizzing by like a gigantic buzzing bee. The operator appeared miniature in sight from 80 feet below us as he controlled the drone effortlessly at long ranges beyond Chickies Rock and the Susquehanna River. As the object hovered in front of the rappelling group, we waved, smiled, and expressed our newfound appreciation of technology.
Thank you, Chris Atencio, for the fine video work! Please check out our “Face-to-Face with Adventure” feature in Issue 35 of Fine Living Lancaster magazine for adventures from the FLL staff, and don’t forget to visit www.ValleyToSummit.com to book a day of rappelling, rock climbing, or one of their many other outdoor trips.
