Fine Living Lancaster (FLL): What colors/designs/patterns are trending for fall?

Randy Weinder (RW): Purple plaids and checks for men’s sport shirts. Medium blues for men’s suits, not navy.

Linda Filling (LF): Greys are the essential neutral color with cranberry and cobalt as the pop colors. Olives are also important. Stripes are still strong, as well as geometric and Aztec patterns.

FLL: The Filling’s man/woman is saying what with their clothing choices?

RW: Men are tired of wearing the same old khaki trouser and navy blazer look. Most men are in better shape and want people to notice. They are buying more fitted trousers and shirts in fun, but not too bold, colors and patterns.

LF: The Filling’s woman is strong and confident and wants to look on trend, but with an age-appropriate look. They come to us for our fashion expertise, personalized customer service and attention to detail, including free alterations! The casual lifestyle look is becoming very strong, so they look to us for weekend attire, casual daytime looks, and up-to-date business wear. We also carry a great array of dresses, casual and daytime.

FLL: What is one of your “must have” items for fall?

RW: Cool casual shoes. Chukkas in both leather and suede are still hot. Also, wing tips, more casual than dress, to be worn with five pocket trousers and denim.

LF: The “must have” for fall is a cool jacket—cropped vegan leather in a bright color or a 3/4 length hound’s-tooth duster. Hoodies are a necessity for the weekend ensembles!

FLL: Tell us one brand you carry and why you love them/the designer? What is one thing they offer this season?

RW: Hiltl and Gardeur trousers. The fit for both vendors is superior to any of our other casual trousers. There will be twills and cords in trimmer styles along with five pocket styles. Colors will be mustards, rusts, medium blues as well as traditional fall browns and greys.

LF: Weston is great as it bridges generations with a casual look for any age.

FLL: What is one trend for fall that we should know?

RW: Five pocket trousers instead of denim. The denim look is still “in,” but guys are looking for a jean look with different fabrics. This is where the Hiltl and Gardeur trousers come in.

LF: The big addition to ready to wear is the Lifestyle Look. It’s casual weekend chic with hoodies, pull on pants in linens, and French terries and cool graphic tees.

MA: The Pappagallo woman loves the versatility and contemporary styling of our clothing. She enjoys wearing a one-of-a-kind piece that will last while enjoying one activity to the next with her family, going to the gym, heading to the office, or enjoying dinner out.

FLL: What is one of your “must have” items for fall?

MA: The “must have” item for fall is a novelty top with leather accents.

FLL: Tell us one brand you carry and why you love them/the designer? What is one thing they offer this season?

MA: My favorite company is Dolan. They always produce novelty tops with unique accents that could be worn for work or out to dinner.

FLL: What is one trend for fall that we should know?

MA: Various styles of leather jackets and fur collars and gloves add a fun, but luxurious accent.

Fine Living Lancaster (FLL): What colors/designs/patterns are trending for fall?

Shane Behmer (SB): Fall is all about loftier fabrics when it comes to tailored clothing—donegals and tweeds make great fall looks. Three piece suits are also trending—guys should not be afraid to add a vest! Most importantly, however, is the fit of the garment. Most guys think they’re a size larger than they are—the jacket should hug the shoulders, not slouch off them. The sides of the jacket should be tapered, and the overall length of the coat is a bit shorter than in the past. The pants should be flat front (no pleats!) with an overall trim, but not slim, fit. There should be a slight break in the pants so that they clip the top of the shoes, but do not bunch over them. The overall look is very clean and tapered, and is very flattering on a gentleman.

Kaitlin Behmer (KB): It is so great to see color this fall. Usually the palette is just greys and blacks (dark colors) but for fall this year we have a lot of color in the store. Floral prints from Kate Spade as well as a red toggle jacket from St. James. Trends include straight-cut jackets or “toppers,” literally meant to ‘top off’ an outfit, more so for flair than for warmth. Clean lines, head-to-toe prints, tastefully done in the small print by Tory Burch navy and red pant with matching top. Juxtaposed textures, for example the Marc Cain fur sweatshirt with the Marc Cain lace skirt. The trick is to keep the color tones similar.

FLL: The TMB man/woman is saying what with their clothing choices?

SB: We serve the stylishly sophisticated men about town. Our clients have to dress for many different occasions—business, board meetings, travel (both business and leisure), country club, etc., and it’s our job to keep them looking and feeling great. We work very hard to offer a curated collection of the world’s finest garments so that our clients can be properly dressed for any occasion.

KB: We dress the stylishly sophisticated customers about town. We dress business women that have to be professional at work as well as women that have a more casual lifestyle that are looking for jeans and a cute printed top from Trina Turk.

FLL: What is one of your “must have” items for fall?

SB: A Barbour jacket. Barbour is new to TMB this fall, but the 120-year-old company is well known for their waxed cotton jackets. Their British countryside styling is both functional and fashionable.

KB: The “must have” item fall would have to be a blazer from Robert Talbott. They are a soft fabric making it feel like a sweatshirt but a tailored fit makes it a jacket. There is incredible comfort with a lot of style.

FLL: Tell us one brand you carry and why you love them/the designer? What is one thing they offer this season?

SB: TMB has carried shoes from To Boot New York for a few seasons now, but each season their collection gets better than the last. Each pair of shoes is made in Italy, and To Boot is famous for their hand finished burnished leather. The burnishing process gives the leather an almost two-tone effect with a darker finish on the toe. To Boot makes anything from a dress shoe that pairs nicely with a Canali suit, to a suede boot that pairs nicely with jeans and a sweater.

KB: Marc Cain has such sophistication and style it is hard not to fall in love with all the pieces. It is a German line that has a European flair and a recognizable look. Printed pants, fur hand warmers, and beautiful blazers is a small taste of what they have for fall.

FLL: What is one trend for fall that we should know?

SB: The hybrid dress shirt. Guys like to get mileage out of their wardrobe; as a result, we’re selling a lot of dress shirts that when a gentleman takes his tie off and pops open his top button, also looks great as a sport shirt. Eton is famous for making shirts like this—they add subtle detailing to the placket that really sets the shirt apart. Circle of Gentlemen is another shirt we’ve started carrying that has really embraced this hybrid dress shirt mentality.

KB: This fall it is really big to see print on print or texture on texture. For example we have an outfit from Tory Burch that is navy with red dots. The top and the bottom are both the same print and it is to be worn together. There is also a trend to see boxy toppers as jackets. This is more of a focus on fashion, not so much warmth.
