Kevin Ressler, a 2017 Fine Living Lancaster Innovator Award Winner and selectee of the awards’ sponsor Lancaster Genesis, announced his candidacy for the Democratic mayoral nomination in Lancaster on Saturday. A group of about 150 supporters, interested citizens, and political activists gathered in front of Tabor Community Services on East King Street to hear Ressler outline his vision for the city of Lancaster.
“We cannot solve every problem. As Mayor, I promise you there will be times when I let you down. I will let down your hopes and aspirations for me, but I will be doing my best to pick new and innovative ways for us to solve problems we have too lazily not confronted with new ideas,” he said in his speech Saturday.
He continued, “As Mayor of Lancaster city, I will also spend times, I hope, in which I will be the representation of all of our hopes and aspirations on ways in which we can become a lighthouse in a whole new way, a model for other cities to emulate. I will treat—and I promise you this—all of the challenges, of all of the residents of this city as an opportunity to care deeply, and to reflect upon daily, and to think about as sacred space.”
Mayor Rick Gray announced last year that he will not seek reelection; Ressler is currently facing two challengers for the Democratic nomination: Norman Bristol Colon and Danene Sorace. He has worked as the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Lancaster since 2014. Get to know Kevin better by having “Lunch” with him, from issue 35 of FLL.
