As anyone who lives in the city knows, Lancaster is an incredibly compassionate community with several reputable charities. Although Habitat for Humanity isn’t a Lancaster specific charity, the organization has done much to better the lives of the city’s inhabitants. The charity, with the help of countless volunteers, works to provide affordable, comfortable housing for those who cannot provide such necessities for themselves.
“Organizations like Habitat for Humanity are not only essential to a city like Lancaster, but also incredibly beautiful,” says Calvin Metzger, a Lancaster native who volunteers with Habitat on numerous occasions and in several areas. “Seeing people work together in the way that Habit volunteers do is a really special sight.”
Habitat for Humanity’s current project in Lancaster is restoring the 600 block of Fairview Avenue. The organization has already provided 11 families with homes in this area and plans to build more. Get involved with Habitat for Humanity by visiting www.lancasterhabitat.org.
