If you live in Lancaster, you are undoubtedly familiar with Joe DeVoy’s entrepreneurial venture: Tellus360. Joe has created a space that’s not only a music venue, but also a bar, pub, rooftop deck, performance area, Pubforge, and think tank/co-working space. It was his willingness to bend the rules of the archetypal bar setting and embrace an eclectic style that appealed to the masses of Lancaster, and made him an “Innovator” this year.
When Joe came to the United States on a soccer scholarship in 1988, he didn’t have any real intentions to stay. Then, during an outing with friends, he was inspired to purchase the building at 24 E. King Street. Originally an investment property, the building went through a transformation, from custom furniture retail store to a premiere venue for live music (though influences from its original mainstay remain). With multiple floors only beginning to be capitalized upon, it is just the beginning for DeVoy. “We’re working on a few things,” he replies when asked what’s next. With a knowing smile and Irish brogue, we can only imagine what he will innovate next.
