Boy Meets Sandwich

We have Alaska to thank for what may well be the best sandwiches in Lancaster City.

Born in Lancaster, Nate Corradio-LeFevre—owner of Nate’s Sandwich Shoppe, a new sandwich spot downtown—grew up in Kenai, Alaska. He fondly recalls his visits to Odie’s Deli in Soldotna, Ala., enjoying their freshly baked bread and fresh ingredients (hard to come by in Alaska, Nate tells me, as the growing season is only three months long). He took notice of their attention to quality, which inspired him to one day own his own place.

Fast forward to Lancaster, 2021. The location of the former Chop Sushi on Gallery Row happened to become available, and—after a quick phone call and a bit of luck—Nate was able to jump on renting the space and get busy building his shop.

Boy Meets Girl

As it does, life threw a bit of a curve ball to Nate. Just after signing the lease and starting the ramp up to opening his shop, he met Kelsea Burkholder. A Lancaster native, Kelsea had previous food experience, having worked at Oregon Dairy for several years. A romance blossomed over what we can only imagine was many, many test sandwiches. Now, you’ll usually find both Nate and Kelsea at the shop, along with Employee Rachel O’Brien.

Lancaster Meets Nate’s

After officially opening in April, Nate’s offers both breakfast and lunch. All of the selections are fantastic. Everything on the menu is—of course!—incredibly fresh and delicious. Each sandwich has just enough of a twist to keep you coming back.

When we first wandered in, FLL’s Managing Editor and I each enjoyed “The Monte” (a twist on a Monte Cristo that is grilled and truly delightful). Served with a side of jam for dipping, it was so delicious that we knew after just two bites that we wanted to make sure to tell Lancaster about this great new daytime spot!

Subsequent visits have found that “The Burkholder” (Kelsea’s ode to Thanksgiving) and “The Marcia” (their take on a tuna salad sandwich) are both home runs, as well.

I can tell you that Nate’s Sandwich Shoppe will certainly be a weekly stop for me… likely multiple times per week when you add in breakfast. After all, who doesn't love a good breakfast sandwich?

Stop by soon — I have a feeling that we’ll begin to see a line up N. Prince Street before too long, leading to the counter at Nate’s.
