Welcome to Southern Market!
Welcome to Southern Market!
After almost four decades serving as private office space, Lancaster’s Southern Market has been re-envisioned, revitalized, and re-opened to the public! The market was first constructed by famous Lancastrian Architect C. Emblem Urban in 1888 and operated for almost 100 years as a farmers market.
“Food, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, was the inspiration and reason for Southern Market back in 1888, and today, both of those elements are present in its revitalization,” said Chris Ballentine, community relations manager at Willow Valley Communities, which oversees the market’s operations. “The food hall model within today’s Southern Market is specifically designed to incubate and support culinary entrepreneurs and their budding restaurant businesses. Much like the farmers' stands that operated back when it was first built, today’s vendor chefs reflect the current cultural richness that makes up our city community.”
