Get to Know Good’s Tree and Lawn Care

Good’s Tree and Lawn Care Inc., a family-owned business established in 1995, is expanding their operations to a new office in Manheim to better serve Lancaster County. GTLC is committed to the preservation and management of the living landscape backed by the art and science of arboriculture and professional turf care.

Sam Hanmer, sales and operations manager for the new office and a resident of Mount Joy, is excited to replicate what GTLC has built in the Harrisburg metro area. Hanmer is passionate about the green industry and is confident that the Good’s way of conducting business and their quality line of services will resonate with folks in Lancaster.

GTLC has built a reputation for being accountable to their employees and to their customers. Bob Good, the company founder and president, affirms: “We do the job we were hired to do, when we said it would be done. When things don’t go as planned, or if we miss the mark, we make a point to deal with the problem head on and early. This is our community. We aren’t going anywhere. So, let’s get it right.”

Accountability

Over the years, GTLC has demonstrated accountability to its employees.
By committing to safe work practices, they protect their employees from harm.
With a contemporary, well-maintained fleet and equipment, they provide the tools to effectively get the job done.
With competitive wages and benefits, they show that they respect their employees and want them to succeed.
GTLC demonstrates accountability to the community:
By conducting proper tree care, they improve the health and safety of urban trees. In this service they contribute to the improved quality of life in the communities where they work.
Through charitable giving and educational offerings, they work to foster connections between people and the environment.
By maximizing tree health and longevity, they are extending the ecological benefits that trees provide include stormwater management, improvements to air quality, and carbon sequestration.

Expertise

GTLC sets a high bar when it comes to verifiable expertise in our service area. Credentialing through professional organizations — such as International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) — provides a standard of care for practitioners.
Bob Good has maintained his ISA certified arborist credential since 1992.
GTLC has been a TCIA accredited tree care business since 2005.
Today, the company has ten Certified Arborists, and one Board Certified Master Arborist on staff.
They have credential holders in Tree Risk Assessment and Tree Appraisal.
They have 20 state licensed pesticide applicators covering eight usage categories.
Expertise is not just about having the right credential. It is about problem solving. It is about collecting all the pertinent facts and information and diagnosing complex issues. It involves the know-how and athletic ability to climb trees, and to be clear on proper and safe execution of the job when they are way out on a limb. We ask questions, seek understanding, challenge our customers and our colleagues. GTLC values expertise.

Safety

Tree work and pesticide application as an occupation carries inherent risk. GTLC manages risk, situations involving exposure to danger, by making careful decisions on how a job can be performed safely. If they cannot design a work plan to do a job safely and mitigate risk to an acceptable level for their customers, they won’t do it. The two most important outcomes at the end of each workday are that they leave a customer’s property safer than when they arrived and that they all go home to their families safe and unharmed.
GTLC follows ANSI Z33 safety standards for conducting tree care operations.
The appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is issued to all employees for each job.
All our turf and plant health care technicians are licensed applicators and follow state regulations.
Safety training at GTLC is frequent, ranging from on-the-job training and skill verification to weekly tailgate meetings and outside seminars and conferences.
The company has maintained at least one Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP) since that designation was established in 2008.

Positivity

Positivity is at the core of Good’s way of doing business. It is their differentiator.
They also practice a positivity checklist designed to reset their state of mind at the start of each new work project. A positivity checklist helps refocus their attention on the job at hand, so that they can execute it thoughtfully, and with a high standard of care. Their check-list includes:
I appreciate that the customer is paying our company a significant amount of money to provide a tree or lawn care service.
In the daily grind of production tree and lawn care, it is easy to forget or disregard the fact that someone is paying us to be on their property and work on their trees. With that transaction comes an expectation of quality. They want to see the value commensurate with the job being completed.
I appreciate that someone, or a group of stakeholders, place a high value on the landscape we are about to provide services.
We need to treat their property, their trees with respect and provide the highest standard of care.
I appreciate that I am a professional, credentialed arborist, or turf care technician or that I am actively working at becoming one.
This is not just a regular job. Your work is important and can have consequences.
I appreciate that the trees and plants we are about to provide service on are alive.
Plants are living organisms. They react physically and chemically to the interventions and actions we engage with them.
