Dan Flynn and Ashley Spotts, a married couple and co-owners of A Day In The Life Records, launched their record shop in a truly low-key way back in 2016 – by literally taking over a small space inside of another Lancaster City business.
Flynn and Spotts built a loyal following at their original pop-up, but didn’t originally have plans to expand outside that space. As it often does, fate had other plans for the couple.
“The dream space became available,” Flynn shares.
Though not at a particularly opportune time… as that dream space became available in January 2021, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unwilling to miss out on the space they truly wanted, the enterprising couple jumped in with full force anyway, opening their record shop at 24A West Walnut Street in Lancaster. They haven’t looked back since.
The name of the store – A Day In The Life – is based on the classic Beatles song. Spotts chose the name simply because it’s Flynn's favorite song.
However, don’t think that the shop leans too heavily on Beatles content.
“The name just seems to have the fluidity to mean something different to each individual,” Flynn explains. Offering a wide variety of genres in both new and used vinyl, you’ll need to allow yourself enough time on your first visit to A Day In The Life Records. You’ll easily lose track of time while pouring through their vast selection – I certainly did.
