Do you know those days when you’re feeling confident in your style? The days when your outfit comes together perfectly, down to the smallest accessory. You feel stylish, cool, and—most important of all—you feel like the best version of yourself.
It’s a sublime feeling, but it can also be elusive! So many small details have to come together, and when any one aspect of your outfit (be it the style, the color, the fit, etc.) isn’t working, it can just make you feel sort of off, all day long.
Enter: Jessica Timblin. Timblin is a personal stylist and owner of Jessica Timblin Styling, based here in Lancaster. She helps her clients build wardrobes that work for their lifestyle, goals, budget, and personal style via her signature three-step system of wardrobe consultation, personal shopping, and styling.
FLL spoke with Timblin so that you can make this summer your most stylish yet.
FLL: Tell us more about personal styling!
Jessica Timblin: As a personal stylist, I work with my clients to help them achieve their image goals. I specialize in wardrobe consultation, personal shopping, and styling services. I have a three-step system that addresses a client’s entire wardrobe needs, from start to finish.
And who is your average client?
One of my favorite parts of being a personal stylist is that no two clients are the same! I have worked with women and men from the ages of 17 through 75-plus. Every styling session is tailored specifically to an individual’s needs.
What do you think your clients are seeking when they work with you on their wardrobe?
I think most people I work with are feeling stuck. Each one of us has to wake up every morning and get dressed, yet no one taught us how to do it. This can be incredibly frustrating, and can lead to a lot of wasted time and money. My clients are seeking solutions to their wardrobe dilemmas so that they can better focus on what is most important in their lives, instead of worrying about what to wear.
What impact have you seen from your work with a client?
I think that fashion has the ability to allow someone to see themselves differently. Having a wardrobe that is thoughtfully planned out and executed can help you reach your goals in life.
What is the average investment that your clients make while working with you, including the purchase of new clothing?
Styling packages vary by size of wardrobe and time spent. Sessions are tailored to fit the needs and budget of the client.
The difference between working with a stylist versus a sales associate is that I will likely talk you out of buying something, before talking you into it. Clothing purchases are always at the discretion of the client.
How did you get started in the fashion field?
I think the key to finding your calling in life is to look for the things that come most naturally to you. Since I was young, I have had friends seeking my advice for putting outfits together. I explored many avenues in the fashion realm before discovering styling. In 2024, I'll be celebrating my eighth year in business!
The big one: Why do you do what you do?
Great style is not a luxury only afforded to the rich and famous. Whether you're just graduating, a stay-at-home parent, or a retiree—you deserve to look and feel your best. My passion for transforming the lives of the people I'm privileged to work with is why I continue to do what I do.
