Road Tripping (#7) – Leaving Chicago, Facing Storms, and St. Paul with Jordan’s College Friends

stormcloudRain, rain, crazy winds, and more rain.

Crazy weather pushed the lightweight Prius all over the highway, all day. I was scared and grateful that Jordan was driving. He appeared confident and only later, after a beer and speaking with his friends, did he confide that he was holding onto the steering wheel as tight as he could and that the car truly was all over the road.

As I look at the weather report for our next series of cities—Bismarck, Billings, and Rapid City—rain is in the forecast the entire time. If it remains as torrential as we experienced today, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments will be drive-bys, a quick picture, and instead of two days to explore, just one.

We are staying the night with Jordan’s friends, Carla and David. They were gracious, generous, and very accommodating to this old mom. Jordan and I have planned an early morning run, then departure, and onward for another six hours of driving to Bismarck … hopefully not while it’s raining.
