Meals on Wheels of Lancaster
At Meals on Wheels of Lancaster, we provide nutritious, freshly-prepared meals at a reasonable cost to those who cannot reasonably provide meals for themselves. This is simply the beginning of the relationships that are fostered here. This labor of love and community extends beyond food delivery. We are fortunate to live in a community that wants to give more. Visiting the homes of our clients is an honor. It is also an opportunity, and we recognize the power of a safety check. By delivering regularly, we can identify changes in safety and well-being for our clients and their families.
Since we first opened our doors in 1967, the number of meals that we serve daily is ever-increasing and, as a result, we have outgrown our current location. Without a doubt, the Covid-19 pandemic had a substantial impact on our services. As we all experienced, the pandemic impacted our community in many challenging ways. We are fortunate that we were able to overcome those challenges with the help of supporters, such as our volunteers and donors. In 2020, we proudly served nearly 1,000 seniors and delivered more than 200,000 meals. We are honored to be selected as our clients’ preferred home-delivered meals provider.
In October 2021, we moved into a newly renovated facility—formerly Mick's All-American Pub on Columbia Ave. Here, we will have two kitchens—one for cooking and one for packing. We have a small event space where we can host our volunteer orientations. The facility is designed with our clients in mind. We look forward to serving more meals and developing additional effective programs. This transition has been long in the making. We cannot wait to see what awaits us in 2022 and beyond.
