Lancaster Farm Sanctuary
The Lancaster Farm Sanctuary is a non-profit farm animal rescue located in Mount Joy. Our mission is to rescue farmed animals and provide them sanctuary. We also aim to inspire humans to live with respect and compassion. So far, we have rescued more than 100 animals in need since founding the sanctuary four years ago, and we’ve connected thousands of humans around the world to their lives and stories.
Last year, we moved to a much larger farm so that we can expand our efforts in caring for animals that have been abused, neglected, orphaned, unwanted, or slaughter-bound, and provide them a loving forever home. We offer community education and outreach through social media, volunteerism, and virtual and in-person events like tours, pop-up dinners, and sanctuary yoga.
One of our most beloved and famous residents is named Jude. He is a 1-year old calf who was born at a local dairy with a cleft lip. Because his lip made him unusable, a worker at the dairy contacted us to see if we could take him in. We rescued him when he was only four days old, and took him straight to the hospital because he already seemed very sickly. It took five months of intense care — hospitalization, multiple surgeries, antibiotics, etc. — but Jude fought hard to get better... and finally, he did! He is now a super happy and healthy guy, who is beloved by all who know him. His cleft lip doesn’t stop him from munching on grass and living life with his herd of friends, including other cows (his best friend is a fellow cow named Tim), goats, sheep, and alpacas. We’re also home to rescued horses, pigs, turkeys, ducks, and chickens.
