Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is so much fun…and changes lives, too!
There’s beauty in Power. GOTR Star Power, to be exact. Star Power is the positive force we all have inside us that makes us shine. At GOTR, girls learn that we all have something different, unique, and brilliant that makes our individual Star Power shine — and one of ours is when we wear our pink and green GOTR capes. They remind us to be authentic, love who we are, and to shine from within. GOTR girls learn this, know this, and become this. But they can’t do it alone.
Today's girls face long standing gender stereotypes, societal obstacles, and cultural challenges that can be detrimental to their emotional and physical health. Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Lancaster & Lebanon is meeting this critical moment by inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running and other forms of physical activity.
GOTR offers programming for girls in the 3rd through 8th grades to build confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills and involve much more than running—the programs make an impact at a critical age when confidence and physical activity declines.
Meeting in small teams, trained volunteer coaches inspire girls of all abilities to strengthen their confidence and other important life skills through interactive lessons and physical activity. A 5K event is the culmination of each fall and spring season, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Following the program, 95-percent of parents reported their girl was more confident AFTER she participated in GOTR.
Typically GOTR serves 2,000 girls and involves 400+ volunteer coaches each year. Since the council was founded in 2009, GOTR has served 18,000+ girls and provided more than $1 million in scholarship assistance.
You can support GOTR by…
…giving your time and talents! No need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation. Coaches receive training, materials, and support, and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.
…giving your support! More than 50-percent of our girls require financial assistance each year to participate. With your gift, you’re giving her a place where she feels accepted and understood, can connect with her peers, gain confidence, and discover her true power and potential.
