Patients R Waiting
Every holiday season, in the pages of our annual Fine Giving feature, we aim to introduce FLL readers to some of the non-profits, local organizations, and community leaders who are working to make our world a better place — here in Lancaster, nationally, and around the globe. This year, we decided to ask a couple of folks to share who they choose to give to — and why they feel passionately about that cause. We hope this will encourage you to join us in giving to the many worthy causes here in Lancaster and beyond, in whatever ways you are able.

Why I Give: Patients R Waiting
This past August, I held my third annual event called Fitness Together. Fitness Together is a dynamic local event, hosted at Tellus 360, that promises to inspire and invigorate our community. In my role as owner of At Her Core Fitness, I curate a specialty team of six trainers for this event. The day focuses on empowerment and holistic well-being, with a spotlight on Black wellness.
This year, we partnered with Patients R Waiting, as our organization of choice to give back to. Patients R Waiting’s mission is to eliminate health disparities by increasing diversity in medicine. Their three areas of focus are:
Increasing the pipeline of minority clinicians
Making the pipeline of minority clinicians less leaky
Supporting minority clinicians in practice
I was more than excited to support Dr. Cherise Hamblin — the founder of PRW — in moving the needle forward to creating a Black doctor factory. We cannot continue to ignore the systems that are in place in healthcare that do not work for all people. By supporting PRW, you’re supporting the future of medicine and helping bridge gaps for current and future Black doctors and the patients that are waiting. Patients R Waiting also supports birthing mothers by providing doula services, which impact women’s maternal health. I am proud to know Dr. Hamblin and happy to continue supporting the amazing work she is doing!
