A Commitment to Community
A Commitment to Community
On a lovely autumn afternoon, as runners, walkers, bikers, and more traveled up and down the seven mile Warwick to Ephrata rail trail, Steve Zywko shared his next project: a 260 foot beautification of the side wall of the Compleat Restorations building that faces the rail trail. As the trail’s daily users pass by, they are watching art being created in real time by Annie Roth of Eso Arts. Bright reds, blues, and yellows weave representations of the iconography of Lancaster County. As we stood there discussing his vision for the mural—that is, to add beauty to his community—a couple walking the trail stopped and excitedly shared with him that they love the project. “So many people compliment it up and down the trail,” they told us. They also shared that some other—rather simple—murals down the trail are now being redone, “probably because of your beautiful mural.”
Zywko, co-owner and manager of Compleat Restorations, thanked the couple. After they left, he turned to me and said, “That’s what we do. It’s always front of mind—how can we help our community? How can we beautify, but also take it to the next level? We want this community—that we not just work in, but live with our families—to know when they need us, we are here.”
Compleat Restorations has a team on-call 24 hours a day. For more than 45 years, when Lancastrians experience any sort of natural disaster, Compleat Restorations has worked to restore their most prized possessions. A tour of their facility included a carpentry area where the two carpenters plan and execute the rebuilding of the damaged homes. In this space, two workers were carefully cleaning old toys that had been damaged; now, with their expertise, the toys had been restored and looked good as new. There were also photos that had been damaged by water now drying, with all mold and mildew removed. From large structures to intricate pieces, all can be carefully cleaned and buildings rebuilt to a renewed state by Zywko’s team.
Through the years, their techniques have been perfected and expanded. In any natural disaster, Compleat Restoration is prepared to help, 24/7.
What sets this company apart, though, is something else they have perfected: Their commitment to our community—from supporting local fire departments and fire chiefs’ organizations, sponsoring a number of scholarships, and now their almost 400 foot mural. Each of these pursuits is done with one goal in mind: Letting the community know that Zywko and his co-owners and staff are there not just to help their neighbors in a crisis, but every day. They want to celebrate with their neighbors during local parades, watch them compete in sporting events, wave hello when they pass-by, and—consistently and continuously—be known as the company that is always there, not just in a crisis, but with a day-to day-dedication to making their community a beautiful place to live.
As we watch this mural come close to its completion, we celebrate the transformation of a blank slate into a work of art. We are witnessing Compleat Restorations’ core value in action: We Display Pride. That is, pride for their work, their facility, their community, and their future, all beautifully interwoven with the lives of those they serve.
