Where No One Dares to Go

Where No One Dares to Go

Real estate agent, Ian Hey, likes a challenge—seeing opportunity in places where others may only see obstacles. He’s a bit of a rebel, but definitely not one without a cause.

Hey’s call to real estate was a literal one. He worked in sales at AT&T for years, and during that time, he interacted with many real estate agents in the area—many who were impressed with his sales skills. The earning potential and freedom was something that initially called him to make the move from sales to real estate. However, the true pulse of this calling arrived after he experienced closing on his first family-client’s home.  “I got my first family a home with a seller assist in a market where people told them it wasn't possible, and they would have to wait until winter. Then some lights went off, and I was like ‘ok, that felt good,’”said Hey.

After that first sale, Hey knew he wanted to shake things up in the real estate market for his clients. He’s a dreamer who believes in the potential of his clients. Instead of saying “no,” he likes to find a way to make it work for them. “My thought process shifted, and now I take joy helping people get a home when others consider them a waste of time or not  ‘qualified in this market.’... Mainly I take joy in watching someone get super prideful over something they didn't think they could have 3 months prior,” said Hey.

Hey is new to the real estate market, having his license for just under a year. That is not stopping this agent from fighting for his clients— a fire burning in his belly during negotiations. “I work at my relationship with my client as I build value. I believe no ask is too small when it comes to negotiations. I'm not ridiculous about it, I'm not a jerk to other agents, but I never fall short just to get a deal done. I always come with my best,” said Hey.

Hey believes the path to possibility for new home buyers starts with education on the entire process. “Closing costs, inspection, good faith deposit—most buyers get caught off guard with stuff throughout the transaction. It's good to be over prepared,” said Hey.

With Lancaster city ever growing, Hey not only closes deals for the “lost causes,” but he also encourages people to look at the potential of different areas beyond the old standbys. “I love the Westside of Lancaster City, as does everyone, but I think there are some blocks overlooked stretching farther out past west end ave. I love East New Street, the first block off Prince Street,” said Hey.

This heavy metal-loving agent lived in Lancaster City for 5 years and has the lowdown on the neighborhoods and local market. He now resides a short drive down Route 30 in Mountville with his partner Kelsey, their two kids and their new 8-week old Bullmastiff. He jokingly said, “No more kids, just dogs.”

If you’re a new homebuyer who has been told “no,” it might be time to give Ian a call. This down-to-earth agent can help your seemingly impossible dream of owning a home come to fruition. Sometimes, you just need someone daring to go, where others will not...and Ian is most certainly not afraid.
