ATOMIC
Team ATOMIC, along with the entire live event industry and so many others, was put on pause in March 2020. Within just a few days, every event had been cancelled or indefinitely postponed. With the future of live events uncertain, we knew that we needed to innovate quickly and apply our teams’ skills to new, diverse markets. Over the past year, we’ve started manufacturing tiny homes, begun sewing high-end home décor products, and launched a new company: Spacekit.
With our typical work—like creating stages for iHeartRadio, MTV, and WWE’s WrestleMania—on hold and our team idled at home, we reconvened via Zoom with a design challenge to pivot our skills to a new market. We’d wanted to explore consumer offerings before, but we’d been so busy with live events that we’d never had the time. Although we wish the situation had been different, it did give us the opportunity of time and an ability to focus on innovating a brand-new product.
Our team began to imagine how 25+ years of creative expertise in modular products for the stage could be applied to residential and commercial settings. We sprinted into the design phase with anything we could do from home, like conducting research interviews, finding new materials, and drawing up designs. Fortunately, we were able to open our shop again right at the moment we were starting on physical prototypes.
After many rounds of prototyping and testing, we finalized the system by the end of 2020 and launched it out into the world at www.spacekit.co. Spacekit is a modular, customizable wall art system using many of the same philosophies we practice for our scenic décor. We took ATOMIC’s “no tools required” approach and translated that into the self-contained Spacekit framing system, which installs with no damage to walls and includes all the necessary hardware, including integrated bubble levels to take the guesswork out of hanging. The Spacekit system also allows art lovers to easily change, reconfigure, and move their custom art from room to room and home to home. The entire product line is being manufactured right here in Lititz, PA, on our shop floor, and is made with sustainable materials and a zero-waste manufacturing process.
ATOMIC is very happy to see live events starting to come back and projected to return in full force later in 2021. As this happens, we’re excited to grow Spacekit’s brand right alongside ATOMIC’s.
